In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Johnny is a character that shows he is brave when he feels he needs to stand up for someone. In chapter 2 of The Outsiders, Johnny stands up for Cherry who is being picked on by his friend, Dally. Johnny stops Dally and says, “Leave her alone, Dally.” (24) Normally, Johnny is quiet and doesn’t intervene. Also, usually no one tells Dally what to do. However, Johnny felt that Dally was picking on Cherry and he needed to step in and say something. This demonstrates bravery because he is willing to say something when he feels that someone is being treated unfairly.
